To build a strong fan base, one of the most important things you can do is NOT focus on making music for everybody. Focus on making music for a specific group of people instead. Doing this will help you find your “niche” in the music industry. Once you find your niche, you will find your success. Once you identify a niche, you can the target and market to a specific group of people that you know will like your music rather than trying to get everyone to like your music. Most artist start out trying to make music for EVERYBODY, trying to appeal to EVERYONE. You must learn how to market yourself as an independent artist, to do this you must find your niche.

When marketing yourself as an independent, the way to build a strong following is to find a niche and create music just for them. We will never be able to please everyone, everybody is not going to like your music. We all want huge followings and want the world to know who we are. The easiest way to do that is by NOT making music for everybody, instead making music for a specific group of people and focus on giving them what they want to hear.

This is not a new concept, below are some videos talking about finding your niche to separate yourself from everybody else and stand out.
